My Grandfather’s Story:

from John Dongerdive, Executive Director

Life Light is unique as a completely indigenous mission organization.  Almost 50 years ago my grandfather was standing in his field and began praying to an unknown God.  His entire village had been devastated by a cholera outbreak that killed thousands including his older brother and cousins. My grandfather developed the same symptoms and knew that he too, probably had cholera and would die. However, he did not believe in the Hindu idols but knew that there was a God that could save him. He prayed to that God for healing. His prayers were miraculously heard, and he was healed.  Praising this unknown God, he wanted to know Who had healed him, but did not know where to find Him.

Three months later American missionaries came to my grandfather’s village: another miracle that American missionaries would visit such a small village in deep mountainous terrain. These missionaries shared the Good News of Jesus Christ with my grandfather!  At that moment, my grandfather knew this was the God that answered his prayer and healed him from cholera.

This is now my story.  Five decades ago, God chose my grandfather from this remote mountain village in western India. My grandfather then taught his children about the One, True Living God and many in our family were saved. Our last name is Dongerdive, which means ‘lamp on the mountain.’  God choose us, healed us, sent His people to us, and is now using us to be His light in this part of the world.

For the last three generations, God has used Life Light to minister to this unreached people group of 60 million in western India. There are thousands of people who know in their heart that there is a true God and are still waiting for someone to share with them about Him.

We are passionate about reaching these peoples for Christ Jesus and would love for you to be involved! We need prayer partners, volunteers, as well as others to give. Our children’s home frequently gains new children for us to care for and love.  These children come to us with just the clothes on their back, and we give them a safe, loving environment to grow up in and learn about Christ.  Our local pastors do not have the privilege of formal ministry training and so often, are alone in their community. Single women are preyed upon by sex traffickers who only want to use them for profit.
Would you consider a monthly sponsorship of one our children? Or possibly an automatic monthly gift that helps support Indian pastors, ministry to our local leper communities, farming projects, and education for woman?  Please visit https://lifelightindia.weebly.com/give.html to learn how!

There is so much work to do and we would love for you to be a part of it! Please let us know if you have any questions. We would love for you to join what the Lord is doing in India and with Life Light!
